Adulting 2.0
#Jordan year
Hello real one,
If you're reading this, you made it to the 47th day of the year and I hope 2023 has been treating you well so far.
The past 47 days has been much better than expected and like I told you, I'm super positive about this year.
I turn 23 on the 18th💃🙃
Birthdays are usually so weird and sad for me especially with the fact that I tend to be overly anxious than normal. If you ask me how I feel right now, I'll tell you for free that I don't know exactly how I feel but I'm so sure that anxiety is far from it. I'm not as anxious as I was a year or even two years ago. I've been in a better head space and I love it so much.
I now live in the consciousness that I'm sponsored by God and He cannot mismanage my life as long as I let him lead.
"LET GOD LEAD" that's my mantra for the year. Do you have a mantra for the year?
Instead of being anxious, I'm more expectant.
Now that the days of baby adulting is ending, there's a lot of preparation, growth, learning and LIVING going on here. I intend to be more DARING this year, fear and complacency can't hold me back at all. You might be like “this is just one of those things people say each year” but I assure you it's not and I'll definitely write to you about these things.
There's so much to be done especially in the aspect of me improving my skills, working on my confidence, taking risks and being disciplined. Like Bela said in her podcast, we are adults and we need to do what needs to be done because a lot of things aren't about sentiments but results.
I really love listening to Bela because her podcast reminds me that I'm not alone on this adulting journey.
23 is a big age for me. You mean Bolanle has been here for over two decades? That's wild!
If you're also in your early 20s, How's it going for you?
On Monday night, I had a thirty minutes call with a friend/big brother, Omololu. The questions I asked him that led to the call were about life after university and I learnt a few things and was also reminded of the things I've learnt in the past so I thought to share some of them with you;
Put God first - When God is involved and your plans aligns with his plans, nothing flops.
Plan & take life one step at a time - It's very important to set clear goals and write them down. Where do you want to be in the next 5 years? Break down these goals annually.
Be Diligent - it's not only about being smart, are you hardworking? Be engaged.
Have a sense of direction - Know what you want and leave the noise out. That someone is in a certain field doesn't mean you should also be in that field, we all have different paths.
Surround yourself with the right people - Walk with people whose goals align with yours and open up to important and selective people. Networking is very important.
Filter advice - It's not all advice you take. At this stage of life, almost everyone will have one advice or the other so you need to be wise enough to filter them.
Put yourself out there - Be outspoken, Let people see that you're smart. Volunteer when necessary because you never know the opportunity that would come out from that. He also told me to prepare my mind for rejection mails 😭😭
I also took note of this book that was mentioned📚
If nothing at all, I really hope this mail reminds you that you're not alone on this adulting journey. All you need to do is breathe and take life one step at a time.
You're a real one if you made it here💜
Thanks for sticking with me as always. I'll write to you more often.
As always,
Stay fly!
